MIRROR SYSTEM AND SYSTEM 7
EXETER PHOENIX
Thur 19 Dec 2024
A seated set by Mirror System, followed by a dance set by System 7!
Join ex-Gong guitar legend Steve Hillage and long-standing partner Miquette Giraudy for a unique evening with two contrasting audio-visual performances.
Mirror System Seated Set
The first half of the evening a rare, seated performance by Mirror System, the downtempo and chillout project of System 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy. This set will open with an excerpt from the seminal Rainbow Dome Musick, originally released by the pair back in 1979 and an album which played a vital role in the development of the ambient music genre. The distinctive Mirror System sound is based on deep rolling grooves and the subtle blend of rich dreamy electronica and guitar. Their successful debut album was released in 2005 and now their style also incorporates a soft minimal tech-house element.
System 7 Dance Set
The auditorium seats will be removed for the second half of the evening when Steve and Miquette assume their System 7 incarnation. System 7 pioneered the use of electronic guitar in an electronic dance music context and continue to thrill audiences across the globe with their unique blend of electronic, beats and sample with live guitar riffs, solos and MIDI-interfaces.
Both sets will be accompanied by visuals in this special event in support of Exeter’s community radio station, Phonic FM.
Please note that the balcony seats will be in place all night so please book one of those if you wish to remain seated for the whole evening.

In 2019, their set was a nigh spot at the 30th Anniversary Zappanale Festival in Germany: a yearly festival dedicated to Zappa’s music which draws thousands of fans from all around the world.
With a particular fondness for the more obscure, hard-to-play material and deep-cuts, Treacherous Cretins promises to deliver another stunning tribute to Zappa and his massive musical legacy. Expect a generous helping of Zappa rarities and songs seldom played live by other bands as well as plenty of fan favourites.

EAT STATIC AND BANCO DE GAIA
EXETER PHOENIX
Fri 25 Apr 2025
A stunning double-bill of two outstanding live electronic acts.
Eat Static
Originally formed as an Ozric Tentacles offshoot way back in 1989, Eat Static have set the bar for sci-fi drenched, alien-oriented techno ever since. Merv Pepler coaxes unearthly bleeps, squelches and other-wordly sounds from his ongoing deep dive into modular synthesis, combined with beats, pulses and bass rhythms that continue to pack dance floors and festival fields across the world. An Eat Static performance contains no presets and no off-the-shelf samples that you will have heard in other tracks, just the latest output from Merv’s fervent imagination.
Banco de Gaia
Toby Marks has been performing as Banco de Gaia since 1989 with 17 albums to his credit (20 if you count cassette releases), the latest being the critically acclaimed ‘Trauma’. Live sets combine an array of exotic samples from across the globe with complex yet danceable rhythms and stunning visuals as classic tracks such as ‘Last Train to Lhasa’ and ‘Heliopolis’ segue seamlessly in an ever-evolving mix.

Creedence Clearwater Revival, commonly abbreviated as CCR or simply Creedence, was an American rock band formed in El Cerrito, California. The band consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty, his brother, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford.
The band’s most prolific and successful period between 1969 and 1971 produced fourteen consecutive Top 10 singles (many of which were double A-sides) and five consecutive Top 10 albums in the United States – two of which, Green River (1969) and Cosmo’s Factory (1970), reached number one. The band also performed at the legendary 1969 Woodstock festival.
CCR’s music remains popular and is a staple of U.S. classic rock radio airplay; 45 million CCR records have been sold in the U.S. alone. The compilation album ‘Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits’, originally released in 1976, is still on the Billboard 200 album chart and reached the 600-week mark in August 2022. It has been certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for at least 12 million copies sold in the U.S.
